Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954–1975

“Godzilla! Now, this is in honor of my son who became a great monster-film person. And we saw every monster film there ever was, either on TV or in the theaters. And so I saw all of these with him. This is my last one. Yeah.”

“Last but not least, I’m going to pick this up. So this is Godzilla: The Showa-Era Films, 1954–1975. And this is great because I was going to try to get a couple of these. Attack All Monsters was the one that I liked because it has all the monsters in it. But this is fantastic. I just got shown this and I want it. And someone… An illustrator I really admire, Yuko Shimizu, did the cover for this, and it’s great. I can’t wait to get into it.”

“And, of course, my Godzilla book.”

“Okay, now it's time. I don't even know if this is going to fit in my bag, but this Godzilla sort of 15 Kaiju Classics. Now if you only have time for one, I'm definitely going to say Mothra vs. Godzilla is my favorite out of this crop. I grew up on these movies, like we would get them and like wear them out from Blockbuster Video, RIP, and I, Mothra was my favorite of these films. I don't know exactly why. I think there was like something, I don't know, like gentler about Mothra. I think like Mothra is, forgive me, gay-coded, and I think I sensed that as a little boy, and I just I love it.”

“I saw this and I freaked out because I love Godzilla. I do. I'm just going to say it, I love Godzilla. Look at this. Now, these have all the originals, right? This is one of the greatest scores of all time. I think it's one of my favorite scores, you know. When I have to get going in the morning, I listen to the theme of Godzilla. And I love this. Thank you so much. This is a great graphic. Whoever did this, you're a genius.”

“This is like the first movie I ever loved. I actually don't know which Godzilla was the first one, I was I was so young, but like right as a kid I became obsessed with Godzilla movies. And there was something about knowing that it's a man in a suit smashing toys that just like blew my mind. And I was like, this is, can I do that one day? And I still sometimes say that's the genre I'm interested in, is a monster movie, but only if it's costumes and miniatures. I don't want CG monsters, I don't care. Yeah, old school kaiju. Yeah, only if I get to be the kaiju.”

“There's another world I don't know. I don't know much about the world of Japanese monster movies. But I know how many cult fans it has. And I've heard a lot about Honda Ishiro. I'll try to get into it this time.”

“Godzilla. And of course, King Kong vs. Godzilla and so on. It’s a great.”
