“This was a complete revelation to see this movie. I'd never seen I'd never seen a pure world, which is like mid-19th century Sicily. I was look I knew I was looking at something that was so the quality of what I was looking at was so special, and the evocation of a period was so vivid and so really, you know, it wasn't some boring old reproduction, and yet it was probably the most carefully researched movie I'd ever seen. And it introduced me to the world work of Piero Tosi, the costume designer, who those of us that know his work, incredible work, not just actually not just the costumes, but particularly the hair, that you've never seen hair that's kind of oiled and controlled in this way, because most of the costume designers' work is often jeopardized and sabotaged by the work of hair and makeup departments. And so to see a man incontrovertibly in control creating this world, creating the world as much as the sets and the lighting of the costumes and the way they literally wear the, and you know, most time actors just wear clothes, but when they when they're in this movie they inhabit the clothes. And so it's I guess it's the first film I want to show people that are interested in costume design, and that's not just, you know, it doesn't mean whether they follow the modern fashion or anything else, this is a very, very special movie. And I remember people have said to me, you know, that when they think of Tosi and they think of this movie they think of this huge tyrant that was, you know, somehow managed to whip everybody into submission. When you meet Tosi, you know, he's this gentle, modest, beautiful man who did it by guile or by being just being so brilliant, you know. So this is for you, Piero. Okay.”
