“Scarface. Old movie. Some of the old movies are funny because they’re unafraid of just wallowing in tropes, and this one is one of those and great fun to watch. Paul Muni, Boris Karloff, George Raft, a Howard Hughes production directed by Howard Hawks.”

“Uncut Gems. Do you know how great this is? Do you know how great Adam Sandler is? Adam can do anything, and he’s one of the nicest guys you’ll ever meet.”

“The Big Heat. I’ve never seen it. I like a noir film. Can I reference the Channel as well? The Criterion Channel also has great noir films that aren’t even in this Closet that you can see anytime. You just get the Channel, you pop it on, you’re going to watch a great movie.”

“A Man Escaped. Haven’t seen it. Can’t wait to see it. Frenchies working at it. They’re the best. They love it.”

“Do you know Quadrophenia? This is a movie that used all that French filmmaking coming out of the New Wave, but it’s a British film, using the music of The Who to tell the story of a youth who is rebelling, but he doesn’t know what he’s rebelling against. And it’s kind of got just an incredible vibe.”

“Gotta go up here. I’m getting the higher shelves because no one goes there. This is a movie called Salò. It’s one of the great films ever made by a human being. It’s horrifying. I’m putting it back. I’ve already seen it. One time, that’s enough. Never need to see it again. And yet it says so much about people and power and how it corrupts.”

“This is called The Red Shoes. This is a beautiful film. I caught it on TV when I was young. They did all kinds of clever camera techniques to make it come alive. It’s just… It’s just a beautiful, romantic, visually stunning film.”

“Here’s one of my favorite films of all time: My Life as a Dog. Anybody who’s writing or even acting, if you want people’s… the viewer’s heart to break, don’t have the characters cry. This is about a little kid who is deeply sad for reasons that are presented to you, but he doesn’t really know how sad he is. And it is heartbreaking and beautiful.”

“In a Lonely Place. I just saw this. I saw this on the Criterion Channel. This a good movie. Somewhat of a complex, psychological noir. It’s not an obvious story. And Nicholas Ray directed it. He did a good job. The story and the complexity of the story and the delicate nature of the story is to be appreciated.”

“Jackie Chan, Police Story is a movie that I shared with my kids when they were young. It’s just fun, clever action. I love it. I love Jackie.”

“Since we’re talking about Jackie, the Criterion Collection has this. These are his early films. It’s called Emergence of a Superstar. It has six films. If you ever wonder about the connection between Buster Keaton and Jackie Chan, watching these movies will show it to you. Set pieces one after another after another. Clever as can be. Physical comedy. Brilliant.”

“I’ve never seen Bruce Lee films. Never seen one ever in my life. So I’m taking these.”

“America Lost and Found: The BBS Story. BBS was a group of producers who were making cool movies in the late ’60s, early ’70s, and these are movies that Nicholson’s in, Hopper’s in, Peter Fonda’s in, the Monkees are in. They were aiming for cool, thoughtful stuff, but also trying to be very realist. Get this box set and you can hang out with them.”
