Jean Pierre And Luc Dardenne

“[Translated] Oh, I just saw... There it is. The Age of Innocence, by Scorsese. To me, one of the most beautiful endings in the history of cinema.”

“[Translated] An Angel at My Table, by our friend Jane Campion. Magnificent film. This was a great discovery. The lead actress was wonderful, and the whole opening... A truly great film.”

“[Translated] Here I've spotted our friend Cristian Mungiu... 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. - Magnificent. - This film was a wonderful encounter for us. And Cristian became a friend. So it's good to pick a friend's film, especially when this friend's film moved us so deeply. A great story about friendship. Yes, and also about the communist system in freefall. That's right, the communist catastrophe.”

“[Translated] Kieslowski's Dekalog... We saw it in the 80s, after '85. It really influenced our work. We were really inspired by him.”

“[Translated] A great discovery. Wanda, by Barbara Loden. I don't think I've ever seen such a profound loneliness depicted in cinema. She wants to change her life, and she isn't able to escape this terrible solitude. And by the end of the film, you want to be with her to have a drink with her. And smoke a cigarette. Definitely.”

“[Translated] - Oh, wait a moment— - There's another film? Yes, another film we thought about... A film we both saw— We both saw it in school, A film from our pre-adolescence... - Death of a Cyclist. - I never saw it again, and I think it'd be wonderful to be able to revisit it, given we haven't seen it since a long time ago.”

“[Translated] Let's stay in Italy, in a way. Scorsese, Rossellini. I just saw that there was a Rossellini... Rossellini and Bergman, films my brother and I watched over and over again, that we talk about often. And of the three, the one I've seen the least, is Journey to Italy. So it'll be an opportunity to rewatch it. And it's great because I get three DVDs in one.”
