The Ice Storm

“This one I’m definitely taking home. The criminally underrated Ice Storm by Ang Lee. I made six films with Ang Lee and this is one of my favorites. But then I am a child of the ’70s, and if you want to see what it was like, shag carpet and all, you got to check it out.”

“Have you seen The Ice Storm? Oh, yeah. David Krumholtz is in that. I never saw it. I see every David Krumholtz movie eventually. It’s really good. It’s Canadian? No, it’s Ang Lee. I know it’s Ang Lee, but was it made in Canada? No? I feel like maybe… I don’t know. I feel like as Canadians, we got an extra push for The Ice Storm. And they’re like, “They’re gonna love this.””

“The Ice Storm. The specifics of this movie, like when they… when she takes an ice tray out and she’s– 1970s, like, she has to crack that thing open, and the attention to detail of, like, what was going on at that time in suburbia. The cast is outstanding. It’s a very delicate and specific and also kind of heartbreaking movie.”

“Now I really have to shut up because, I'm really out of time, but you got to see The Ice Storm, Ang Lee.”

“Ice Storm, I have a perfect personal attachment to this film. When James Schamus was writing the scenario, he told me that he was reading a book of mine and that my theoretical book was inspiration. So it's personal reason, but I also love the movie.”

“Ice Storm. Simple. Grounded. No lunatics. It's not absurdism. I say all that because all that stuff is not really my speed. I have an appreciation for it, but I think it's important to know your speed. And maybe my speed will change. But my speed is something like this. Ice Storm.”
